Overview

Antiplatelet agents prevent blood clots by inhibiting platelet aggregation. They are widely used to reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke in patients with cardiovascular disease.

How do antiplatelet agents work?

Clopidogrel and related drugs irreversibly block the P2Y12 ADP receptor on platelets, preventing ADP-mediated platelet activation and aggregation for the lifetime of the platelet (7-10 days).
