PrescriptionDrugs.org

Editorial Policy

PrescriptionDrugs.org is committed to providing accurate, evidence-based drug information. This policy explains how we create, review, and maintain our content.

Content Creation

Every drug monograph and guide on PrescriptionDrugs.org is built from authoritative primary sources:

  • FDA-approved labeling (prescribing information) serves as the primary source for drug indications, dosage, contraindications, warnings, and adverse reactions.
  • NIH resources including MedlinePlus, DailyMed, and the National Library of Medicine provide supplementary drug information and patient-oriented summaries.
  • PubMed-indexed research from peer-reviewed journals supports clinical claims, efficacy comparisons, and safety data beyond what appears in labeling.
  • DEA scheduling data is referenced for controlled substance classification, in accordance with our Controlled Substance Policy.

All factual claims include inline citations. We use a tiered citation system that indicates source quality:

  • Tier 1 (Regulatory/Primary): FDA labels, FDA safety communications, official regulatory documents.
  • Tier 2 (Clinical Evidence): Peer-reviewed clinical studies, systematic reviews, meta-analyses.
  • Tier 3 (Observational/Reference): Medical reference texts, observational studies, professional guidelines.

Content Review Process

All content on PrescriptionDrugs.org is fact-checked against FDA-approved labeling and peer-reviewed clinical evidence before publication. Our editorial team verifies every factual claim against its cited source.

Our review process verifies:

  • Factual accuracy of all drug information and clinical claims
  • Appropriate clinical context and completeness
  • Correct interpretation of source materials
  • Absence of misleading omissions or overstatements
  • Appropriateness of the information for a general audience

Each published page displays the date it was last updated. Our editorial team profile is available on our About page.

Corrections Policy

We take factual accuracy seriously. When an error is identified in published content:

  1. The error is corrected as promptly as possible, typically within one business day of confirmation.
  2. Material corrections (those that affect clinical understanding or patient safety) include a correction note indicating what was changed and when.
  3. Minor corrections (typos, formatting, non-clinical clarifications) are made without a formal correction note.
  4. The “last updated” date is refreshed on any page that receives a correction.

If you believe you have found an error in our content, please contact us at corrections@prescriptiondrugs.org.

Conflicts of Interest

PrescriptionDrugs.org does not accept pharmaceutical advertising. This is a permanent editorial policy. We do not publish sponsored content, and no pharmaceutical company has any influence over our content.

No member of our editorial team has financial relationships with pharmaceutical companies. As we expand our team, any future reviewers will be required to disclose conflicts of interest and will be recused from reviewing content about drugs where a conflict exists.

For full details on our revenue model and financial independence, see How We Fund This Site.

Content Updates and Currency

Drug information changes over time. FDA may issue new safety communications, label revisions, or drug withdrawals. We monitor these updates and revise our content accordingly.

Each page displays a “last updated” date indicating when the editorial team last verified the content against its sources or made any change to the page. Content is fact-checked against FDA-approved labeling and peer-reviewed evidence by our editorial team; it is not currently reviewed by a named, independently credentialed medical professional. We disclose this openly rather than imply a level of review we do not provide.

Controlled Substances

Content about controlled substances (medications classified under DEA Schedules I through V) follows additional editorial guidelines. See our Controlled Substance Policy for details.
